Jana Kramer is ready to return home to Tree Hill, N.C.
The “Why Ya Wanna” singer shared details about the One Tree Hill sequel in development at Netflix with the show’s stars Sophia Bush (who portrayed Brooke Davis) and Hilarie Burton (Peyton Sawyer), and whether or not she’ll reprise her role as Alex Dupré.
“I had spoken to Hilarie about Alex making an appearance when I knew about it,” Jana said during the Sept. 8 episode of her Whine Down podcast. “We had discussed it before the news broke. It was probably like a month or so ago. I think their intention is to bring back the people that make sense.”
Jana, 40, also seemed to confirm some character details about the reboot, including that Hilarie and Sophia are “coming back as moms.”
“Hilarie was like, ‘I never got to meet Alex, so it'd be fun to have us meet,’” Jana continued. “I'm like, ‘I would love that. Yeah, sign me up.’ We'll see, TBD.”
Jana’s character Alex—who was an actress hired to be the face of Brooke’s clothing line Clothes Over Bros—entered the series in season seven and never met Hilarie’s Peyton, who exited the show in season six. But the country singer had some fun with her Instagram followers on Sept. 5, asking them if they think Alex and Peyton would “get along” in the reported reboot, according to Us Weekly. As of Sept. 6, the poll Jana created said that 73 percent of her followers believed “for sure” their characters would be friends and 27 percent said they would “not at all” get along.
While the fictional pair’s friendship remains hypothetical, news of the reboot was full of details.
Multiple outlets reported on Aug. 30 that the teen drama would return and be executive produced by Sophia, Hilarie and fellow One Tree Hill alum Danneel Ackles, who is also in talks to reprise her role. The show is set to be written and executive produced by Becky Hartman-Edwards, whose previous projects include Firefly Lane and Parenthood, per Variety.
“The sequel is said to take place 20 years later,” according to Deadline, “following best friends Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities and grief.”
Sophia also cryptically reacted to news of the reboot on Aug. 30, posting an Instagram photo with Hilarie, Danneel and fellow alum Bevin Prince alongside a caption that read, in part, “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”
Netflix declined to comment when contacted by E! News.
Ahead of the reboot, read on to see how the cast of One Tree Hill has reunited over the years.
Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, Danneel Ackles, Bevin Prince, Stephen Colletti, Austin Nichols, Matt Barr and more stars ofreunited for a 20th anniversary celebration thrown by FWB Charity Events in November 2023.
"Got to hang out with some great humans this weekend," Austin wrote in November 2023. "Old friends. Old stories. Lots of laughs. And made a bunch of new friends. Thank you to everyone who made this happen!"
Michael Trucco and James Lafferty photoshopped a sign to pay tribute to the show. "Sign seems legit," Michael wrote. "Always a good day when I get to spend time catching up with my buddy/nephew."
James Lafferty and Bryan Greenberg had a mini One Tree Hill reunion and were joined by Jamie Chung and Alexandra Park.
As Hilarie shared, these three will always be there for another, through "thick and thin."
Fans were loving this reunion, including Kristin Cavallari, who commented a heart on the post.
Hilarie and Robert give the camera a cheeky look in this selfie.
It's safe to say these former cast mates will be BFFs.
Clearly, someone cannot contain their excitement over this reunion.
Throughout the many seasons of One Tree Hill, fans got to know and love many a character, including Michael Trucco's Cooper. As die-hard fans will recall, the conniving Rachel seduced Cooper and tricked him into thinking she was having his baby in the second season. The gig was up, however, when they both got in a car accident and she had to confess she lied about the whole thing, thus leading to Cooper's exit.
Hilarie poses with the famous Angel of Death character that used to plague her.
